StaffEx is seeking a Head Start Teacher to provide preschool age children the opportunities to enhance their social and school readiness skills. Provide developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of social, cognitive, language, and physical growth. Use differentiated instruction to guide and support all children in their growth and development.


BA or higher in Early Childhood Education or BA or higher in Education with at least 6 credit hours in Early Childhood Education.

Required 45-hour DCF Training

To plan and implement a culturally sensitive educational program that is developmentally appropriate for each child's age and language

To plan and implement appropriate daily lesson plans, based on the approved curriculum, that promote the cognitive, language, literacy, social, emotional, and physical development of children in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one based on School Readiness Goals and the needs of children

To lead large group learning times in a manner consistent with CLASS philosophy and developmentally appropriate practice

To use teaching strategies that illustrate the CLASS philosophy in Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support

To become certified as a CLASS reliable observer

To conduct ongoing assessment and individualization documentation in a timely manner

To collect, enter and analyze child assessment data and use plan individualization

To plan a balanced daily routine that encourages play, exploration, and learning; and which includes teacher-directed and child-directed activities, and inside and outside time

To provide a developmentally appropriate, stimulating learning environment by adding new and interesting materials each week

To provide a warm, nurturing, loving and positive environment, using positive guidance techniques and upholding the DLC Discipline Policy

To develop nurturing relationships with each child by encouraging his or her social and emotional development

Participate in research initiatives pertaining to early child hood education, development, and related topics

To conduct daily health checks on each child

To plan weekly activities promoting a healthy lifestyle

To follow policies and procedures regarding medical and dental emergencies, short-term exclusion of children, and the administration, handling, and storing of medication

To ensure that safe practices are followed to prevent injuries to children or self

Physical Requirements:

Observe, see, hear, and respond to children's needs, emergencies and conflicts that may occur in the center or on the playground

Lift a minimum of 45 pounds from the floor to a waist-high table when necessary

Reach a child 20 to 30 feet away within 30 seconds without endangering the staff person's health

Crouch to a child's height, maintain eye contact at the child's level, sit on the floor and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment, and be able to quickly transition from one position to another

Be physically, visually and auditorily aware of the cognitive, social and physical needs of children

Communicate verbally and writing in English to the degree that child, parents and other staff members can understand and respond

Pass urine drug screening

No felonies within the past 7 years
